Halloween treat bags

Leaves are fallin' around here and the temperature has dropped so it gets me thinking more about fall than summer.  What's my favorite part of fall?  Halloween, of course!  I love making little treat bags for my kids classmates.  Here is what I came up with for this year. 

I used a black piece of cardstock 3 1/2" x 11.  I scored at 4 1/4", 4 3/4" and 9".  Then I fold it.

For the witch bag, I used a 3 1/8" x 3 1/8" piece of SU's Halloween Night Designer paper (retired).  I ripped it along the bottom and attached it to the base, under the flap.  Using the set, Fright Night, by My Favorite Things,  I stamped "Happy Haunting in black on only orange cardstock.  I punched out the saying using the large oval punch and then matted it on black and cut around the oval using my scissors.  I added a brad for decoration.  Next, I tore the bottom of the flap and added an orange piece of  ripped cardstock underneath.  Then, I tied a piece of tangerine grosgrain ribbon around it.  For the main image, I colored it with prismas and matted it on black and orange.

For the next bag, I used the same designer paper matted to a piece of orange card stock and attached to the base with brads.  Trick-or-treat was stamped in black on orange cardstock and punched out with the word window punch and matted on black.  Then I trimmed around it with my scissors.  The main image was stamped and then masked.  I stamped over it with an oval stamp (A Muse) to create a shadow by their feet.  I then doodled a frame around them and colored the image in using prismas.  Finally, tangerine grosgrain was tied around the top.

Inside, I attached a half piece of velcro circle to the flap for better closure.  A small flat cello bag (SU) was SNAILed inside.  Now they are ready to fill with yummy treats!

Back to School!

Yeah, my computer is letting me post now!!  Hopefully my luck will continue:)

I got this new set in the mail from My Favorite Things while I was on holidays.  Since today was registration for my boys school (is the summer over all ready??) I though I would post this card.  I was going to make two of them but I just found out this morning that my older son's teacher is going to be a male.  He may not like a skirted woman on the front of his card, lol!  Hopefully I will have time to make up another for him soon.  I can never get over how long it takes to get back into the groove after holidays.  I had 150 emails alone...that's A LOT!! 

I used SU's Print Pattern background stamp for the floor.  I paper pierced the skirt using certainly celery designer paper and colored her with prismacolor pencils and gamsol.  To add a little "school" look I used the spiral punch on the edge of the black cardstock.  I embossed the "Back to School" sentiment with white embossing powder and colored and cut out the apple to sit on the chalkboard ledge.

Our trip was fantastic!  We travelled through Calgary to Salmon Arm, BC and then spent four days in Vancouver and four days in Victoria.  We travelled though Kelowna on the way back (bought lots of fresh fruit there!)  In Vancouver we went to the Aquarium and toured Stanley Park (checked out the cool totem poles).  We went for a walk by the water and saw a sea lion sunning himself on a rock a couple of feet from shore.  Quite a sight for a prairie girl! 

This is me on the Capilano Suspension Bridge.  My boys are looking towards the camera...I am the one in black near the middle who was absolutely bootin' it to get off!!!  450ft long, 250ft above the water and it really SWAYS!!  I am absolutely terrified of heights (won't stand on a chair to change a light bulb if I don't have to) so this was an amazing accomplishment for me:)!!!  The worse part is though that you don't just go over it once...you have to do it twice or you can't get out of there!  I did better the second time though.  Even briefly looked down (okay, it was a millisecond, at most).  I just really wanted to prove to my kids that even though you are scared of something you have to face it and try.  I think they were proud of me;)

Here is my husband and my kids at Canada Place in Vancouver.  We loved watching all the boats in the harbour.  Again, not many yachts on the prairies!  Canoes and speed boats maybe:)

Here are my children in Victoria, BC.  We went to Butchart Gardens, toured a castle and went whale watching!  Absolutely gorgeous there!  The only downside was that we hit and killed a baby deer with our van.  Poor little thing jumped out of a deep ditch and my husband couldn't avoid it.  My kids were really shaken up but we were able to use it as a lesson on why you always look both ways before you cross the street and why they need to hold an adult hand in a parking lot.  The whole incident was just unfortunate.

My cutie pies in there whale watching outfits!  We saw a humpback whale and a few orcas.  One came up right beside the boat...very cool!
